A Chat With Linda Tol
Love Stories’ muse and style icon Linda Tol waved Amsterdam goodbye for a life en route, meeting people and inspiration around the world. After calling Milan her home for many years, she now relocated back to her roots – her heart still full of amore for the land of Bellini’s.
Love Stories founder Marloes Hoedeman caught up with Linda about their new love affair and life down south. Both ladies in different time zones, of course. Read the interview with Linda below.
Marloes: First things first, where are you right now?
Linda: In Amsterdam. I just came back from Copenhagen, for fashion week.
M: How many nights a year do you spend away from home?
L: It’s easier to count the nights at home ;-). This year I’m travelling a bit less than last year. Last year, I was at home around 6 nights a month, so 72 nights a year. This year I’m travelling about 1-1,5 week a month. I officially moved back to Amsterdam a week ago. Before, I was dividing my time between home in Milan and Amsterdam. But after living between two countries for six months, I decided to move back to Amsterdam.
“Sometimes I bring my pillow if I have enough space in my suitcase, because it makes a difference to feel a bit at home away from home.”
M: When you’re travelling, what are items you can’t go without? What’s the key to looking fabulous while living out of a suitcase?
L: PJ’s. I’m often cold in hotel rooms. And my beauty products. It’s important to stick to a routine, even while traveling. Also sometimes I bring my pillow if I have enough space in my suitcase, because it makes a difference to feel a bit at home away from home.
M: You lived in Milan for many years; did you take some of the Italian lifestyle home?
L: Yes, I plan less. I live day by day. I value my family time. I drink more coffee. I bring my clothes to the dry cleaner. And I book a manicure and pedicure every week.
M: How would you describe the Italian sense of style?
L: They wear everything, from bold statement pieces to minimal silhouettes. They don’t follow the rules. They are having fun with the clothes they are wearing. They love prints, colours and they love to mix and match.
M: On that note, what is the signature influenza Italiana in this collection?
L: The rich materials and the silhouettes. This collection is very feminine, sexy and very
chic. Quality materials are very important to Italians.

M: Our new collab was designed with women like you in mind - celebrating life and always on the go. Could you tell us a bit more about this inspiration?
L: I’m always travelling and spending nights at hotels. From big cities to tiny towns. From luxury 5-star hotels to romantic boutique hotels. Always surrounded by so much inspiration. Different cultures, new people, personalities and styles. It’s sometimes hard to fall asleep because the brain continues to process all the information and inspiration. I live out of a suitcase. My personal belongings make me feel at home. They make me feel safe.
M: How would you wear the collection? Which items would you pack to complete the look?
L: I love the fact that all the items are wearable in so many different ways, like the kimono that’s both a night robe and a dress. I would wear it to a party with a pair of heels, and wear it in my hotel room before going to bed with satin slippers. The satin lingerie set can be worn and shown under an oversized blazer with a high-waist pair of trousers. All the items in the collection are party wardrobe essentials.

M: This collection launches in November. How do you plan to celebrate?
L: The night will start with drinks at the bar and will end on the dance floor. Celebrating with my friends, all dressed in the new collection.
